The group is made up of professors from the Universities of Granada and Almeria as well as researchers from other academic and research institutions with the common objective of analysing artistic and cultural developments in Andalusia and their international projection, preferably in Italy and Latin America, during the Modern and Contemporary Ages.
With this in mind, the group's work is divided into different lines of research that can be grouped into three thematic areas:
- Architecture and urban heritage, which deals with studies related to architecture and urban history, altarpiece architecture or local heritage (Valle de Lecrín, Comarca de Baza, cities of Granada and Almería, Comarca de los Vélez, etc.).
- Plastic and decorative arts, whose areas of study are Granada Baroque sculpture and its projection in eastern Andalusia, theory and function of the image, processional art and popular religiosity, contemporary imagery, religious silverware and history of silverware in the provinces of Granada, Almeria and Jaen, and painting, sculpture and design of the 19th and 20th centuries.
- Projections and contexts, in which various areas of research are contemplated, such as artistic patronage, collecting and the art market, artistic relations between Spain and Italy, baroque sculpture in Quito, iconographic and iconological studies and travel literature as a source for the study of the history of architecture.
The members of the group actively participate in different R+D+i projects, as well as in cataloguing, inventories, musealisation, heritage interpretation and exhibition curatorship.
